GLOVERSVILLE-Mrs. Bertha
Banker Ireland, 84, active in
community and civic programs
for many years until taken ill,
died at 12:30 p.m. yesterday at
the Highland Nursing Home
where she had been a patient
15 months. She was ill four
years.
Before going to the nursing
home, Mrs. Ireland resided at
155 First Ave. She was born
Nov. 26, 1885, in Gloversville.
Mrs. Ireland was a Gloversville
High School graduate and
was a 1907 graduate of Smith
College. She was a member of
the Congregational Church.
Mrs. Ireland was married in
1912, to Horton Jay Banker, who
died. She married the late John
Ireland in 1930.
Survivors are a son, John P.
Banker of Gloversville; two
granddaughters, Mrs. John. C.
Kemp of Portales, N.M., and
Miss Nancy P. Banker of Natik,
Mass.; and a grandson, Jay
Banker of Albany.
Before taking ill Mrs. Ireland
was active in the American Red
Cross, receiving a 40-year pin
in 1960. She also was a member
of the board of directors of the
Gloversville Day Nursery and
the board of managers of
Littauer Hospital, from which she
resigned in 1965 because of declining health.
She had been
very active in golfing and was
a member of Pine Brook Golf
Club of Gloversville and the
Antlers Golf Club of Amsterdam.
There will be no viewing
hours. The body Is to be taken
to the Gardner Earl Crematory,
Troy. A memorial service is to be conducted at the convenience
of the family.
Memorial contributions may
be made to the Littauer Hospital building fund. Funeral
arrangements are by The Brown
Funeral Home of Gloversville.
