WEST BOYLSTON Ronald H. "Pompa" Cameron, 90, of West Boylston died Thursday, January 21 in the Autumn Village, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 69 years, Shirley M. (Winslow) Cameron; two children, Douglas R. Cameron of Bristol, ME and his children, Katherine and Michael and Beverly J. Guida of Worcester and her children, Matthew, Julia, Laura and John; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Spencer; a sister, Jane R. Dunham of Birmingham, AL; and nieces and nephew. A brother, Andrew Cameron predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Hugh and Margaret (Rougvie) Cameron and graduated from Major Edwards High School and has lived in West Boylston for 86 years. He was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre and in Italy in B Company, 2nd Battalion, 338th Infantry Regiment, 85th Division, 5th Army and was a purple heart recipient and received the Combat Infantry Badge and the Presidential Unit Citation.
Ron was a pattern maker in the machine division at Norton Company for 40 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Boylston Lodge of Masons A.F. & A.M., the West Boylston Historical Society and a former Troop Leader with the Boy Scouts. Ron enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and spending time at the Wachusett Reservoir. He was a solid family man.
A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held Saturday, January 30 at 11 AM in FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston St. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
