"Grandma" Samantha Wait, formerly of Kane, was buried today at Edinboro in a shroud of wheat she herself had plucked in her own field on her 78th birthday 21 years ago.
Her oft-expressed wish that she be permitted to die on Christmas Day was granted. She died this Christmas Day.
The 99-year-old woman who lived in Edinboro had been awaiting death since her 78th birthday. Satisfied at that time that she had lived a full and ample life, she expressed her willingness to be visited by death. She went into the field and picked her burial shroud of winter wheat.
Mrs Wait lived here until several years ago with her daughter, Mrs Lena Howard. Other survivors are a son, George Wait, of Erie; two daughters, Mrs John Alward, of Edinboro, and Mrs Dona Lawrence of Erie.
