Cenotaph for sailor killed in the torpedo sinking of the Destroyer Escort USS Eversole (DE-404) in the closing stages of the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Most of the crew were rescued from the water but just over 40 died when the ship exploded before sinking. The stone on which this sailor is memorialized belongs to his nephew, also a World War II US Navy sailor, and his wife. Arnold also is memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines. See that memorial at this link.
