On 26 April 1841 L. A. Gunst, a thirty-six-year-old merchant from Hanover, Germany, reported the death of his nephew, Abraham Simon Ascher, on 21 March 1841 at New Orleans, Louisiana, aged twenty-five years. Abraham, unmarried, a butcher by profession, was born in "Versabe," Amt Hegen, near the Free City of Bremen in Germany, the son of Simon Moses Ascher and Rachel (Gunst) Ascher.
