"LAST SERVICES
HELD TUESDAY FOR
MRS. MARIVA BELDEN

Funeral services for Mrs. Mariva Brooks Belden, widow of Marcus M. Belden, were held from the Smith Home for Funerals Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Belden had been making her home with her son, Worth Belden, who lives on the road running north from Snow's Corner, and passed peacefully away in her sleep sometime Saturday night.

The services were conducted by Rev. Robert Inglis. Pallbearers, all old friends of the family, were J.B. Grinnell, Russell Baggs, Oliver Bean, H.H. Armstrong, Roscoe Dempster and Joy Cox. Music was rendered by the College String Quartet. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mariva Brooks was born in Florence, Erie county, Ohio, Oct. 23, 1861. She was the daughter of Homer E. and Mary Kellogg Brooks.

Her early education consisted of attendance in the little six-sided stone school-house across the road from her father's store. In later years, after the family came to Iowa, she attended the Grinnell Academy.

Before her marriage, Miss Brooks was a teacher in the rural schools of Adair county and the high school at Adair, Iowa. In 1895 she married Marcus M. Belden of Stuart, Iowa. After their marriage they made their home on the old Belden homesead near Stuart. They later moved to Missouri, and in 1901 they came to the home north of Grinnell. Mr. Belden died in 1919 but Mrs. Belden continued to live on the farm.

She is survived by three brothers, Dr. George Brooks of Wooster, O., Willis E. Brooks of Earlsboro, Okla., and John Brooks of Greenfield, Iowa, and her only two children, Worth and Grace.
