A native of Center, Texas he was born in 1887, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Jones. On Dec. 26, 1916 he married Vivien [sic Vivian] Parker, of Winnsboro, La.
His widow survives. Also one daughter, Mrs. Cooper of Marietta. There are three grandsons.
Rev. Jones had spent his early life in north Louisiana. He finished secondary schooling at Acadia Academy in Mt. Lebenon [sic Lebanon], La. In 1908 he graduated from Louisiana College in Pineville where he was on the football, baseball and track teams. He did graduate work at Vanderbilt, Berkley Divinity School in Berkley, Calif., the Baptist Bible Institute in New Orleans and Southwestern Institute in Fort Worth, Texas.
He had held pastorates in Holden, Grand Cane, Baton Rouge, Farmerville and Clarks, La. He retired from active ministry in 1949.
He was a chaplain of the YMCA in World War I.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 at the Clarks Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Old Bethel Cemetery in Clarks.
The body will be sent from Ohio to Louisiana Wednesday afternoon.
