Francis "Frank" Kavanagh, 94, of Girard, died at 2:50 P.M., Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Girard Medical Center.

He was born August 13, 1912 in Greenbush, Kansas, to William and Clara Agnes (Westhoff) Kavanagh.

On July 23, 1932, he married Leona Vogts at Greenbush. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2000.

He was a lifetime resident of the Girard and Brazilton areas.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard.

Frank's father died when he was three years old. His mother and two brothers owned and operated a small dry goods store in Greenbush from 1924 until 1929.

After his marriage, he farmed and lived northeast of Brazilton.

In later years, he was in the tree cutting business until his retirement. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. He was well known around Girard for his homemade apple cake.

Survivors include two sons, Merle Kavanagh and wife Millie, of Walnut, Bill Kavanagh and wife Pat, of Pittsburg. Two daughters Marilyn Bradshaw of Walnut, and Crystal Larmer and husband, Bill, of Girard. A sister, Pauline Vitt and husband Walter, of St. Paul. He had 95 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Marion Fry of Girard, his loving friend and caregiver.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Dennis Kavanagh.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard with Fr. Donald R. Thissen as celebrant. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. The Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where the family will receive friends following the Rosary. Friends may call after 1:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.

The family suggests remembrances be in the form of Masses or memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund in Girard. These may be left at either church or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
