The Chief Steward of the SS City of Flint (L. M. Long, Master), Mr. Rolls died suddenly, of heart failure, around 8:35 a.m. as his ship entered the Port of Santos, Brazil. He was seen falling while going about his duties and, despite immediate and prolonged attempts to revive him, he died. He was 43 years old.

A US citizen, he was the son of Ora Palmer Rolls and Marian Grant. In 1923 he married Hazel Miller in Jefferson County, AL. The 1940 US census lists him as a widower.

He was survived by his sister, Mrs. H. Haisten, of Fulton Ave., Birmingham, AL.
