Ewell Fowler BLACKSBURG, Va. Ewell Weldon Fowler, 87, of Blacksburg, Va., died Monday (March 14, 1994) at Heritage Hall in Blacksburg, Va.

A proud native Texan, he was born in Gober, Texas, Nov. 1, 1906. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marie G. Fowler. Dr. Fowler was a graduate of East Texas University, Texas A & M University and the University of Missouri. He taught in the Texas public schools before moving to Charleston where he taught industrial education at Eastern Illinois University from 1941 until his retirement in 1974.

He was a master craftsman in woods and a specialist in the restoration of antique furniture. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and received his 60-year pin in 1990. He was a member of the Charleston Methodist Church.

With his wife, Marie, he traveled throughout the United States and the world. After moving to Showalter Center in Blacksburg in 1990, he was one of the authors of Appalachian Elders - A Warm Hearth Sampler.

Also preceding him in death was a brother, David Fowler, and a sister, Ruth Dodson. He is survived by two sisters, Verna Burnett of Bonham, Texas, and Gladys Spillman of Mayfield, Ky. He is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ethel-Marie and Bob Underhill of Blacksburg, Va., and three granddaughters, Amy Lythgoe of Memphis, Tenn., Laina Goff of Greensboro, N.C., and Yvonne Underhill of Orlando, Fla. Also surviving him are a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Judy Fowler and three grandchildren, Leslie Brittain, Andrew Fowler and Stuart Fowler, all of Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Blacksburg, Va. A graveside service will be held in Charleston at a later date.

Fowler service CHARLESTON The memorial service for Ewell Weldon Fowler was Saturday morning at the Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Clark officiating. Masonic services were conducted by the Charleston Masonic Lodge AF & AM 35. The master was Maurice Scott; secretary, Ivan Hosapple; and chaplain, Gene Smith. Mr. Fowler, 87, of Charleston, died March 14, 1994, in Blacksburg, Va.
