Lelia "Ruth" Ruff, daughter of Walter Stevens Ruff (1870-1943) and Lelia Mary Walters Ruff (1878-1963), was born May 29, 1900 on the family farm north of Hanston, Hodgeman County, Kansas.

She married Clarence Elmer Salmans July 29, 1925 in Hodgeman County, Kansas. They had four children: Mary Frances Salmans Worley (1927-2009), Ivy Mae Salmans Webster (1928-xxxx), Fern Lucille Salmans (1929-2004), and Elmer Walter Salmans (1931-1939). Clarence died July 11, 1939 on their farm east of Jetmore, Kansas. Per Page 210 of The Brooks Homestead Book: "Ruth" sold the family farm, livestock, and machinery and moved her family from their farm into a house near the Baptist Church in Hanston where the family lived until 1945.

In August 1945, per Page 212 of The Bloom Homestead book..Lelia "Ruth" and the girls moved to Bloom, Ford County, KS not far from where Ruth's sister Ivy lived on a farm near Minneola, Clark County, KS.

Lelia "Ruth" Ruff Salmans married Jay Straney Andrews July 21, 1946. Per Bloom's "The Anderson Homestead" page 212, "They had a simple wedding at the Minneola parsonage Sunday morning July 21st attended by Ruth's mother Lelia, her sister, Ivy and her two daughters Ivy and Fern and Jay's daughter Grace Andrews (later Brooks). Jay and Lelia returned with their blended families to the Andrews Homestead Farm outside of Bloom (Ford County) where they lived for the next 38 years. Jay died June 30, 1983 followed shortly after by Lelia "Ruth" who died November 23, 1983.
