Vergie Lee Hamer Faulkner was born August 9, 1953 to the late Mary Lou Townsend Taylor and late George Lee Taylor. She was the fifth child of eighteen children. She was adopted and raised by the late Fannie Lou and Perry Hamer.

She attended Ruleville Central High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Greater True Holiness C. O. F. C. under the leadership of the late Pastor Fred Coleman. Later, she served with her beloved son-in-law Oscar Espinoza, where she was a faithful disciple until she entered her rest.

Vergie was a civil rights spokeswoman on the behalf of her beloved mother, Fannie Lou Hamer.

She departed this life on October 25, 2017 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN.
