Fred Bergman was born April 14, 1882, the son of Maria Falgerhauer and Friedrich Bergman at Altwasser, Schleisen, Germany. He died January 13, 1968 in the Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior Nebraska at the age of 85 years, nine months.

On March 30, 1908, he was united in marriage to Annchen Martens at Wilhelmshaven, Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annche, in 1964. Surviving are are his son, Fredo Bergman of Nelson, a daughter, Mrs. Marianne Patton of Canon City, Colo., a brother, Adolph Bergman of Kahla, Germany, two grandsons, Robert Bergman of Iowa Falls, Ia, and Marion Patton of Eugene, Ore., two granddaughters, Sharon Bergman Meyer of Nelson, and Sharyle Patton of Portland, Ore., and also three great granddaughters, Tammy, Darcy and Christy Jo Meyer of Nelson.

Fred Bergman came to America with his wife and one year old son on June 29, 1910, residing, temporarily near Nelson, Nebraska, then moving to Roby, Texas.

In 1912 the family of four returned to Nuckolls County, Fred residing here for the remainder of his life. He spent his life farming near Nelson and Mt. Clare, retiring and moving to Nelson in 1959. After the demise of his wife he devoted his time to his flower garden and to painting in oils. While in Germany his occupation had been interior decorating.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 15, at the Salem Lutheran Church. Interment was at the Nelson Cemetery with Rev. George J. Feistner officiating. Casket bearers were Ralph Meyer, Bill Thornberry, Jack Wilson, Fred Schiermeyer, Ernest Schriever and William Morehead.
