Clifford Merle Cook was born on 10 September 1904 in Central City, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. A son of Levi Garfield Cook and Elizabeth Mae "Lizzie" (Bender) Cook.

In 1906, Clifford was a big brother to a little girl his parents named, Frances Arbutus Cook.

At 2 years old, 3 May 1908, Clifford became the big brother of a little boy named Quentin Fay Cook. Quentin passed away at the age of 2 months and 4 days, on 7 Jul 1908 in Shade Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Quentin passed away due to Pertussis. He had complications after having pneumonia followed by pertussis for 3 weeks. He was buried in Graefs (aka Dr Martin Luther Memorial) Cemetery on 9 Jul 1908.

Through the 1910-1920's, Clifford was living with is family in Shade Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

By 5 May 1925, Clifford was divorced from his first wife. The divorce taking place in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

On 18 Nov 1929 in Bedford, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, Clifford married Alverta Pearl Heiple.

14 Dec 1929, Clifford's father Levi Garfield Cook, at the age of 48, passed away in the Windber Hospital, Windber, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, from a broken back he sustained in a Sep 30th mining accident. His father was an employee of the Reitz Coal Company. His father, Levi, was laid to rest in the McGregor Cemetery in Cairnbrook, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

30 Apr 1930 in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Clifford was living with his wife, Alverta Pearl and his in-laws, Murphy and Mary Heiple, as well as a younger teen brother-in-law, Charles and younger sister-in-law, Verna were in the home. Clifford was working as a laborer in the Coal Mines.

On 25 May 1930 in Saltlick Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, Clifford lost his wife, Alverta Pearl and their first child together, a infant son, who was born still. Alverta had complications during her pregnancy with preeclampsia which sadly caused both of their deaths on 25 May 1930. Alverta and the little one were both buried on 27 May 1930 in the Horner-Mount Tabor Church Cemetery in Stoystown, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

On 26 Aug 1939 in Summit County, Ohio, Clifford Merle Cook married Mary Elizabeth Aleshire. They would have two daughters, Wanda and Sandra together.

4 Sep 1943, Clifford's mother, Elizabeth Mae "Lizzie" (Bender) Cook passed away in Akron, Ohio. She was buried beside her husband Levi Garfield Cook in the McGregor Cemetery in Cairnbrook, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

On 17 May 1964 in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit, Ohio, Clifford's sister, Frances Arbutus (Cook) Nosel passed away. She was buried in the McGregor Cemetery in Cairnbrook, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Frances was the wife of John Nosel Jr. Frances and John had two children, John L. Nosel and Jean Louise Nosel.

On 16 Apr 1985 in Akron, Summit, Ohio, Clifford's last living sibling, his older sister, Blanch M (Cook) Shaffer passed away. Blanch was buried in the McGregor Cemetery, Cairnbrook, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Blanch married Ralph R. Shaffer on 23 Apr 1923 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, they had 4 children; their first born was a son who was stillborn the cause was not determined but he was 8 months gestation.; they had two more sons, Cecil Garfield Shaffer and Ronald Neal Shaffer, then a daughter, Donna Rae Shaffer. Blanch and Ralph's divorced was granted in May 1941 in Akron, Ohio. Blanch never remarried.

CLIFFORD MERLE COOK

Clifford Merle Cook, 93, passed away March 31, 1998, at Woodside Village in Mt. Gilead, Ohio.

He was born Sept. 10, 1904, in Central City, Pa.

He was a longtime resident of Akron. He retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Blanche Shaffer and Frances Nosel; and brother, Quinten Fay.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth Aleshire Cook; daughters, Wanda (David Sr.) Landis of Galion, Ohio, and Sandra Cook of Geneva, Ohio; grandchildren, David Jr., Tammy, Heather, Jennifer, Nicole, and Clifford Landis.

There will be a memorial service held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Greenlawn Memorial Park's Ivy Chapel (2580 Romig Rd. in Akron; 745-4515). At the family's request, no flowers are to be sent. (CREMATION SOCIETY OF OHIO, 535-1012.)
