When the American colonies revolted against Great Britain he became a rebel. However his elder brother Edmund joined the English. After the war James dropped the "g" from the end of their name. They considered that Edmund had disgraced the family. James settled in Greene County, Georgia. He was a man of means and gave his children every advantage that the country afforded. They were well educated. The daughters were noble women and famous for their beauty. The sons were honorable, chivalrous, full of humor and strikingly handsome. They were of a pure blonde type. The Fannin-Saffold family cemetery is located on warehouse property belonging to Pennington Seed in Madison, Georgia. It is unknown if there is a marker for James.
