FAMILY SEARCH. When Melva Jones was born on 5 April 1909, in Hunter, Salt Lake, Utah, her father, Robert Elijah Jones (1881-1972), was 28 and her mother, Mary Ann Haslam (1881-1934), was 27. She married Lynal Edwin Brady (1908-1987) on 15 March 1929, in Salt Lake, Utah. She lived in Election Precinct 5, Salt Lake, Utah in 1920 and Salt Lake, Utah in 1940. She died on 10 January 1995, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, at the age of 85, and was buried in Sandy, Salt Lake, Utah.

Our sweet mother, Melva J. Kilpatrick, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 1995 at her home surrounded by her loving family.


She was born in Hunter, Utah, April 5, 1909 to Robert E. and MaryAnn Haslam Jones.

She married George Ronald Kilpatrick on her birthday April 5, 1933. He died September 25, 1969.


Melva worked at Rocky Mountain Bank Note, retiring after 25 years of service. She also worked for the Utah State Tax Commission.


From early childhood her life was filled with music. Being a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she freely shared her gift of music with people of all ages. She was choir director of Cannon 7th Ward in her younger days and directed several youth choirs. She also served as ward chorister in many of the wards she attended. She was also a member of the Magna Senior Citizens Band, the Melodears, and the Salt Lake Chapter of Sweet Adelines.


She is survived by her children: Ronald Robert Kilpatrick and wife, Shirley of Eureka, Calif.; Carol K. Proctor and husband, Jerry of Ogden; Glenda K. Seelos of West Valley; Janet K. Gallegos and husband, Manuel of Belen, New Mexico; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert A. Jones Haslam (Enid); Wendell H. Jones (Sylver); John H. Jones (Marlene); sisters, Afton J. Wellington, Cleone J. Bailey, numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband, parents, brothers, Walden H. Jones, Horace H. Jones; sisters, Mary J. Fenwick, Margaret J. Dodick; grandchild, Gayle Seelos.


Melva loved her family and was a devoted Utah Jazz fan. She loved beautiful sunsets, White Shoulders perfume and the color purple.


The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Roy Gandolphi and Select Home Care for their care and friendship.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 1995 at 12 noon, in the Hunter 35th LDS Chapel, 6170 West Marcrest Dr. Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at Deseret Memorial Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, and Saturday, one hour prior to services at the church.
