Born on September 13, 1988 in Rochester. Hannah is survived by her loving parents, Marilyn and Terry, and beloved sister Elizabeth, grandparents Carolyn Congdon and Elwin Marshall, aunts DiDi, Nancy, Janet, Margie, Barb, Linda, Peggy and Cindy, uncles Rich, Thorn, Te, Sid, Don, and Jerry, all whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by cousins Katie, Sarah, David, Alyson, Alexis, Nicky, Marky, Whitney, Mark, Eddie, Bobbi Jo, Melanie, Angie, Donnie, Ashley, and Heather, sharing a special bond with Emma and Mac. Hannah was predeceased by her grandmother Betty Marshall, grandfather Charles Congdon and cousins Chuckie and Lonnie. Hannah is also survived by best friends Sara, and Keisha, the "Hood Girls", FVC Angels, and her countless friends whom she loved dearly.
Hannah's love for Fairport is reflected in her many activities including Cheerleading, Leadership Asset Training Program, Pop Warner Cheerleading Coach, Lacrosse, and any sporting event where she could cheer on her boys! She was especially proud of the trip she made to India in 2006 and cherished the friendships that developed! Hannah was best known for her smile and her kindness to everyone she met. She was planning to attend SUNY Cortland to study Elementary Education. She hoped to join the Peace Corps and work in a third world country before she married and had several children
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from noon to 6 P.M. at Fairport High School. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9 A.M. Monday at Church of the Assumption, 20 East Ave. in Fairport. Affectionately nicknamed "Princess," friends say Hannah Congdon had a limitless amount of energy and sweetness that affected anyone who spent a minute in her presence.
Cheerleaders from other schools and acquaintances writing on her Facebook online tribute page described Hannah, 18, as "the nicest girl I've ever met." There were stories about her performing card tricks every lunch period during her sophomore year, helping freshmen pick the right classes, and doing crunches with her cheerleading teammates but still having time to sneak a slice of pizza between the strict workouts.
"Hannah always had the biggest smile on her face. It lit up the crowd everywhere she went," said Kelly Ludwig of Fairport, who graduated this year.
"Everyone loved her."
David Paddock, principal of Fairport High School, remembers how, with each passing day during the last week of class, Hannah would bound up to him.
"She'd see me and say, 'It's our last Monday together,' and we'd pose for a picture. The same on Tuesday and so on," he said.
Hannah had just mastered a standing backhand spring required to tumble, a maneuver she'd worked on since sixth grade. She was afraid of landing on her head or something else going wrong. But with encouragement from her teammates, she felt brave enough to try and was thrilled to succeed.
"She was very gentle and always had a smile on her face. She was happy all the time," said Elaine Deignan, Fairport cheerleading coach.
And even though she rarely played in the varsity lacrosse games, she didn't sit quietly on the bench.
"You could always hear Hannah cheering and getting involved supporting her teammates," said Meghan Stuver, 19, of Fairport, a former classmate.
Hannah, daughter of Terry and Marilyn Congdon, was planning to attend the State University College at Cortland and major in elementary education.
Last summer, she traveled for 10 days to some of the world's poorest nations, including India. Hannah and other classmates visited areas ravaged by the 2004 tsunami.
Hannah carried a strong sense of spirituality and attended Life Teen services every Sunday, said Marie Claus, director of youth ministry at Church of the Assumption.
"God was important to her," said Claus.
