Obituary: James William Gray, 84, died Tuesday at Forum Health Northside Medical Center. James was born Oct. 1, 1922 to the late Ormond and Annie Dyer Gray in Youngstown. Mr. Gray retired after 32 years working for General Fireproofing as a welder and retired after 13 years from the Youngstown Post Office as a mail carrier. He was a member of the Churchill Methodist Church, a Boy Scout leader for 13 years as the assistant district commissioner, a Cub Scout order of the Arrows, a member of AmVets Post No. 44 and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. James served in WWII in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Betty Hynes Gray, whom he married July 13, 1946; his two children, Richard A. (Carole) Gray of Canfield and Candis L. (Richard) Witt of Westerville; a brother, Carl Ormand Gray of Florida; three grandchildren, Heather (Andrew) Guarnera of Austin, TX, Sean (Kristi) Gray of Wilminton, NC, and Erin Haught of Miami; and a great-grandson, Aidan Guarnera of Austin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Anderson, and brothers, Paul and Eugene Gray. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Blackstone Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday at the Churchill Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held at noon on Friday. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.
