Ernest J. Laureys, Sr., 88, of New Carlisle, IN, died at 7:07 AM Tuesday, April 24, 2007 in his home.

He was born to the late Phillip J. and Leona (DeWaele) Laureys in New Carlisle, IN, and was a lifelong resident.

Mr. Laureys retired in 1983 from Raco-Hubbell Corporation, after 45 years of employment. He graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1936.

On May 24, 1947, he married Loretta A. Moyer at St. Patrick Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. She survives.

Along with his loving wife Loretta, of 60 years; he is survived by two daughters, Evelyn A. (Jim) Keene of West Lafayette, IN; Jan K. (John) Rehlander of LaPorte, IN; three sons, Ernest J. (Diane) Laureys, Jr. of Elkhart, IN; Joe P. (Carol) Laureys of New Carlisle, IN; Kevin E. Laureys of New Carlisle, IN; ten grandchildren, Brian and Brent Keene; Ernie III, Michelle, and Steven Laureys; Ben and Mike Laureys; Masen and Trevor Laureys; and Janelle Rehlander; two great grandchildren; and one brother, Albert A. (Mazie) Laureys of New Carlisle, IN.

Mr. Laureys was a long time member of St. Patrick Parish in South Bend; life member of American Legion Post #297 in New Carlisle; member of New Carlisle Lion's Club; and a former president of Raco Credit Union. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a die hard Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
