Dan Calwell was born in Pennsylvania. He moved to Union County, possibly from Lancaster County in the late 1700s, and bought the White Deer Mills. He represented Union County in the House of Representatives in the years 1820/21,being a member of the Binnite Party. He established a ferry in 1800 which was a great convenience for the settlers in the vicinity of Watsontown in crossing the river into Union Co. and vice versa.
