Viola Oedewaldt, a retired nurse, died June 30, 2019. Viola was born Nov. 28, 1922, to Ruth and John Alligier in Dove Creek, Colo.

Her family moved to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, where she graduated from high school. She worked at Montgomery Ward and attended business college. When she married and had her first child, she and her husband built their own home in the Clarkston Heights. She had a passion for helping others and was instrumental in organizing the Pink Ladies’ Auxiliary at Tri-State Hospital in the mid-60s. She became a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in 1969, and worked as an OB nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Once retired, she was active in many civic clubs and volunteered as a hospice nurse. She coordinated volunteers at the Asotin County Food Bank for 25 years. She took art classes at Clarkston Senior Center.

She is survived by her son, Mike Angelo, of DeSmet, Idaho; her daughter, Grace Dyson, from Medical Lake, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and John Alligier; her sisters, Ethal Beckman and Myrtle Smith; and her brother, Fred Alligier.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Asotin County Food Bank.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20 at Merchant Funeral Home in Clarkston. An 11 a.m. celebration of life will follow the Vineland Cemetery graveside service at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 829 15th St., Clarkston.
