Marie Lawing Bowers, 94, passed away July 14th in Hospice Home of High Point, NC with her loving family by her side.
She was born in the Harmony Grove community, near the town of Nebo in McDowell County, NC on July 11, 1925, the daughter of William (Will) Lydia Lawing and Margorie (Margie) Bowman Lawing of the Harmony Grove community, NC, both of which preceded her in death.
Marie was a member of Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and in many other various capacities. She and her husband Wilbur helped design, develop and maintain the Prayer Garden at Abbotts Creek Church for many years.
Marie’s great passions in life were raising her four children in a loving Christian home, her church, gardening (both flowers and vegetables), traveling and taking long walks and collecting seashells along the shores of Long Beach/Oak Island, NC. She also took great interest in keeping up with the lives of the many children and young adults she influenced over the years.
Marie and her husband of 70 years, Wilbur Franklin Bowers (deceased) were married on June 22, 1946. They had four children: Jerry Bowers (Jill-Marie), Janice Bowers Cooper (deceased), David Bowers (Darenda), James Bowers (Dee), seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews, all of whom she was so proud of and loved very dearly.
Marie has 1 sister: Reba Lawing Falls who resides in Winston-Salem, and 7 brothers, Alvin T. Lawing, Eugent Lawing, Milford G. Lawing, William L. Lawing, Jr, Edwin Hubert Lawing, Paul D. Lawing, Sr, and Charles Raymond Lawing. All of her brothers preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 20th at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church located at 2817 Abbotts Creek Church Road in High Point, NC with Rev. Roy Cantrell and Rev. Dr. Joe Coltrane officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
