Independence County Chronicles Vol. 27 No's. 3/4 page 40. Union discharge. Served during Civil War as an Enlisted 27 Oct 1862, Mustered in 20 April 1863 at age 19.
Family story says that Seth had a mule shot out from under him during a battle in Tennessee and that he was pinned under the mule all day by his left leg.
A General Affidavit written and signed by Seth on 26 April 1902 in his pension request Seth states "As to injury of left leg my leg was broken about thirty one years ago by a team running a way with a wagon and caught my leg between the wheel and a tree."
