James Peay Shivers was born on June 10, 1868 in Tennessee, and he was the son of William Henry Shivers (1830–1907) and Christiana (Glasgow) Shivers (1832–1910).
He was married to Lura Clifton (1875–1964), the daughter of Richard Clifton and Nancy Jane (Wherry) Clifton.
A machinist in a planing mill and living at 2010 East Side Avenue in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, James was 84 years old and married when he died June 12, 1952 of cerebral arteriosclerosis at rural Nashville's Davidson County Hospital where he had been for a little more then four months. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery, Madison {city, not county}.
