Beloved mother, supportive friend and a diligent and dedicated worker, Carla White, born Carla Reed, died at age 69 on June 26, 2019.

Carla worked at several law firms, including as a secretary and paralegal at Blackwell Sanders; as a paralegal at Linde Thomson; as a paralegal, investigator and office manager at the Jackson County Counselor’s Office, and as a professional development coordinator at Shook, Hardy & Bacon. She retired in 2016.

She received her paralegal certification from Metropolitan Community Colleges in 1989 and a bachelor’s degree in management and human resources in 1999 from Park University.

She taught Sunday school to children at Noland Road Baptist Church in Independence, Missouri and taught adults to read as a volunteer tutor after training through Literacy Kansas City. She attended Oakwood Baptist Church.

Carla had a tender heart and loved her cats, including Buddy, Holly, and Panther who greeted her at Rainbow Bridge and the two cats who survive her, Maggie and Callie. She enjoyed listening to music, cross-stitch, reading, and laughing and spending time with her friends. She included those who cared for her so well at the Healthcare Resort of Leawood among her friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Mae Reed Butler; her father, Jesse Millard Reed; sister, Joyce O’Dell; brother, Raymond Reed.

She is survived by her son, Rick White and daughter-in-law, Stephanie White, of Fort Worth, TX; daughter, Jennifer White of Portland, ME; brother, Dennis Reed, of Bumpass, VA; sister, Alice Reed LePage, of Poplarville, MS; and four grandchildren, Raegan, Annabeth, Aidan, and Juliet White of Fort Worth, TX.

A Celebration of Carla’s Life will be held at one of Carla’s favorite places, Manny’s Mexican Restaurant at 207 Southwest Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri on July 18, 2019 at 4:00pm.
