Sarah Jane Marshall was the youngest child of Thomas Marshall and Mary (Gill) Marshall. She was born in Iowa on 25 January 1856. The Marshall family was living in Mounty Ayr, Ringgold, Iowa in 1860, so it can be assumed that probably was where Sarah was born. Her father Thomas occupation was listed as "Attending Mill." In 1870, when Sarah was 11 years old, the Marshall family lived in Bluff Creek, Monroe County, Iowa. Her father was then farming.

Sarah had the following siblings: Nathaniel T. (born 1842 in Ohio), John (1844 in Ohio), Mary M. (1852 in Iowa), Thomas (1855 Iowa).

On 18 July 1885 in Freemont, Dodge County, Nebraska, Sarah married William J. Weidensall. The couple resided in Saunders County, Nebraska. Sarah and William had the following children together: Bessie Ellen (1884-1958) and William Henry (1888-1961).

The years betweeen 1890-1900 are unclear. In the 1900 US Federal Census, Sarah (last name misspelled Weidenzall) appears living in Kearney Ward 1, Buffalo, Nebraska. Children Mary and William Weidensall are living with her, and Sarah is listed as a widow. This is confusing because William J. Weidensall did not pass away until 1929. Charles DRAKE is listed as a BOARDER living with Sarah and children in Kearney Ward 1, Buffalo, NE. He is working as a "Teamster." It appears that Sarah and Charles Drake did in fact marry in 1900 (according to the 1920 Census that listed them as being married 10 years).

In 1920, Sarah "Sadie" now married Drake is living in Cuming, Dodge, Nebraska with husband Charles. They had one son together: Edwin Drake (born 1902).

Sarah's second husband Charles Drake appears to have outlived her. A Charles E. Drake (age 83) appears in the 1940 US Census in Dakota County, Nebraska as a widower who is also an inmate in the County Poor Farm. Records of his death/burial have not yet been found.

Sometime between 1920-1925, Sarah moved to Randall, Morrison County, Minnesota. Her daughter Bessie, husband Joseph Betts and family moved with her.

Sarah Jane Marshall Weidensall Drake passed away 28 August 1925 in Randall, Morrison County, Minnesota. Sarah is buried in line next to her daughter Bessie, who is buried with her husband's family.
