Bernice L. Davidson Smith, age 72, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, July 8, 2019 at NHC Lewisburg.

A funeral service will be held on at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Entombment will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, adjacent to the funeral home.

A native of Columbia, TN Bernice was born on July 21, 1946 and was the daughter of the late Barkstle Thomas Batts, Sr. and the late Bernice L. Roberson Batts.

She was employed by Weather Tamer, Hardees, One Hour Modernizing, and Pelikan. Due to her father being in the Air Force, she attended Andrews School in Columbia and various other places including Alaska, Bermuda, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Ohio, and Illinois. She loved quilting, crocheting, country music, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her son: Jimmy Davidson; daughter: Vicki (Jeff) George; grandchildren: Bradley Walls, Makayla Davidson; sisters: Patricia Batts Cates, Margaret Batts Lunn; brother: John Henry Batts; nieces and nephews: Brenda Cates (David) James, Anna Stinnett, Machelle Bailey, Penny Love, Michael Batts, Jeremy Batts, Angela Batts, John Batts, Jaxon Batts; great nieces and nephews: Alisha Reynolds, Nikki (Chris) Belcher, Stephen (Christy) Burns, Ashley Love, Caitlyn Love, Hunter Love; several great great nieces and nephews; a son by another mother: Trent Mitchell; and best friend: Edith Tillery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Barkstle Thomas Batts, Jr., Billy Ray Batts; grandparents: John William & Rosie Kate Slaughter Roberson, John Henry & Artie Kate Thompson Batts; brother in law: Calvin Lunn; her beloved dog: Itty Bitty; and her best friend: Anita Baker.

Pallbearers will be: David James, Jeff George, Keith Cates, Trent Mitchell, Josh Beasley, and Eddie Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will include the members of First Family Baptist Church, the staff of Avalon Hospice, and the staff of NHC Lewisburg.
