Geneva J. Aalbers, 82, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society. She was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Pella to William and Tillie DeKoning Sheppard. She married Marinus J. Aalbers April 13, 1946, in Oletha, Kan. Geneva was a member of the Baptist church, life member of VFW auxiliary, the American Legion and the YWCA. She was born and raised in Pella and has lived in Ottumwa for the last 57 years. She had worked for the St. Joseph Hospital as the food service director for 24 years, retiring in 1988. She is survived by three daughters, Maureen Abbott of Davenport, Janet Richards and Jacki McElroy, both of Ottumwa; two sons Richard of Ottumwa and Marinus of Windsor, Colo.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Lou Buyert; a special sister-in-law Junella Cadwell as well as sister-in-law Joan Hughes. Geneva is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one granddaughter, Buffy Aalbers; one grandson, Gary Bain; two brothers, John and William "Butch" Sheppard.
