A.C. Gunnels, 78, of Terrell, passed away peacefully March 29, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. A.C. was born April 6, 1935 in Brownsboro, TX to Will and Emma Gunnels, both of whom preceded him in death along with his siblings: Arthur Gunnels, Betty Smith, Zeffie Featherston, Imogene Featherston, Eula V. Cotten, and Jo Amos.
A.C. began his long and worthwhile career with building cars by partnering with Mr. Babers in his auto repair shop, Babers Garage, in Mesquite. After Mr. Babers' retirement, A.C. owned and operated the shop until his own retirement. For over 50 years he was a dependable and honest mechanic that so many customers trusted. When he wasn't working, A.C. built dirt track race cars and his cars were driven by talented drivers locally in races. His love of fixing anything was a pastime that he shared with all his family and he always maintained that no one should ever buy what can be made! He enjoyed retirement and living in the country where he raised mules and horses. His devotion to his family is a hallmark of the commitment and steadfastness A.C. had in his character. A man with integrity, A.C. will leave a legacy for his family and friends to cherish until they all meet again.
He is survived by his wife, Myla Gunnels of Terrell; children: Donna Bowling and husband Sam of Dallas, Beckie Farris and husband, John of Bonham, Alton Gunnels of Terrell; step-children: Jim Dobson and wife, Tina of Midland, and Daina Mosely of Richardson; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; former wife and mother of his children, Faye Bolinger as well as numerous nieces, nephews.
