Ralph V. Hower, 89, a former resident of Nampa, died in Littleton, Colo. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999 from complication following surgery. Memorial services were held in Lakewood, Colo., Dec. 2. Following the holidays, a memorial service will also be held in Nampa on Jan. 14, at the First Congregational Church of Nampa, 1007 C. Midland Blvd. at 11 a.m.
Ralph was born Dec. 7, 1909, to Clarence and Lena Hower near Mankato, Kan. He attended schools in Jewel County, Kansas, and graduated from high school in Superior, Neb., in 1929. He farmed with his father until September 1935, when he married Mary R. Wilde in Los Angeles, Calif. The couple returned to Kansas and farmed for one year before moving to Idaho in 1936. The couple bought a ranch west of Nampa in 1944 which Ralph farmed until he retired in 1966. In 1990, Ralph and Mary moved to the Silver Crest senior community in Nampa. They moved to Sunny Ridge Retirement Center in 1995. Ralph and Mary celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary prior to her death in 1997. In 1998 Ralph moved to Littleton to be near his daughter and her family.
Ralph was a charter member of the First Congregational Church of Nampa and was a member of the mens organization, church choir, served on all church boards and was a past-moderator. He was also a member and past president of the Countrymens Club.
Ralph is survived by his daughter, Sharon Williams and husband, John of Littleton, Colo.; granddaughters, Christine Williams-Hughes and husband, Rob of Littleton, and Kathleen Battleson and husband, Dan of Greeley, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Congregational Church of Nampa, 1007 C. Midland Blvd., Nampa ID 83651.
