The news article has the spelling of the last name as COULTER but all of the gravestones of his descendants say COALTER so I believe this is incorrect.

Judge David Coulter was a surveyor and land owner. At one time he was the largest land owner in South Carolina. He died in Abingdon, Va. in 1881.

Coulter married Ann, daughter of James Carmichael. Ann died in St. Louis in 1825.

They had five daughters who became famous belles in their day and they all married distinguished men:

Ann Catherine Coulter (or it is spelled Coalter in some articles) married William Harper on July 4, 1816. They had two children. Harper was one of the ablest jurists that South Carolina ever produced and who represented South Carolina in the United States Senate in the twenties. Harper was born on January 17, 1790, on the West Indian island of Antigua. Harper was the son of the Reverend John Harper, a Methodist missionary, and Henrietta Hawes. He died on October 10, 1847. He was interred in the Means Family Burial Ground in Fairfield County.

Maria Eliza (1792-1829) married William C. Preston (1794-1860), a United States Senator from South Carolina in the thirties and forties.

Frances Margaret married Dr. David Means, an eminent physician of of South Carolina Carolina, and a brother of Governor John H. Means.

Caroline Jane (3/27/1800 - 6/12/1864) married Hamilton Rowan Gamble (1798-1864), a prominent Missouri Governor and Secretary of State of Missouri in 1824.

Julia (1807-1880) married Edwin Bates (September 4, 1793 – March 25, 1869), Attorney General of the United States in President Lincoln's cabinet. They had 17 children together.
