Gary Alton Atkin, 82, passed away July 2, 2019 in Beaver, Utah. He was born February 22, 1937 in Beaver, Utah to Alton and May Atkin. He grew up in Beaver, Utah and attended Beaver High.
He married Raye Smith on February 22, 1956. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple. They made their homes in Ely Nevada, Sandy Utah and after they both retired in Beaver Utah.
Gary worked for Kennecott and GCR as a tire mechanic. He enjoyed helping the young men as a Boy Scout leader. Gary enjoyed everything outdoors, riding his horses, camping, fishing, hunting, four wheeling and was very proud of his gardens. Hunting elk with family and friends was like Christmas to him.
He is survived by his wife Raye Atkin; children Daniel Atkin, Rick (Tanya) Atkin, Lisa (Tony) Slok; seven grandchildren and sister Janet Bess; special friends Dave (Lori) Perkins, Hal (Gloria) Murdock, and faithful pet coco.
He was preceded in death by his parents May and Alton Atkin; brother in-law Ron Bess; niece Kristy Bess and many aunts and uncles and his furry side-kick Tip.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11:45pm at Mountain View Cemetery (600 North 650 East) with a viewing prior from 10:00 to 11:00am at Southern Utah Mortuary Beaver (195 North 200 West). There will also be a viewing Friday, July 12, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Southern Utah Mortuary Beaver. www.sumortuary.com
