Japanese politician, literary critic. Known as "Miyaken".

He was an activist of the Communist Party of Japan since the age of the illegal party before the war, and he led the Communist Party of Japan for 40 years after he became general secretary of the party in 1958 after the war.
Served as a member of the House of Councilors (2nd term), he served as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Japan, Chairman of the Committee. There are times when he was the leader of a political party holding a seat in the National Assembly but was not a member of the National Assembly.
