In 1971 she married the love of her life, Alfred Erby Walker. A lifelong OKC resident, Joan spent her life serving her community by working in the kitchen of Jackson and Roosevelt Middle School's. Joan was a selfless and generous woman. Every year Joan would pick out 10 students whose parents didn't have the adequate financial resources that are required to feed and clothe their children. Joan would buy them school supplies, clothing, and pay their lunch room tabs. She enjoyed traveling to Branson and Fort Cobb Lake. She was a professional shopper and also served as a caretaker to many family members around her.
Joan was witty, sarcastic, and she had an incredible sense of humor. Family was always her top priority and she relished the opportunity to make her famous fried bread with chocolate and potatoes dumplings for her family. She had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog Trixie and her best friends Dollie, Gwen, and Debbie. Joan had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh.
