Eli Frantz was born in Berks Co, PA on 18 Dec 1817. He married Lavina Edris in Pennsylvania before the family migrated to Tippecanoe County in 1852. The family located on a farm in Wabash Township four miles SW of Lafayette, IN. In 1862 Eli bought a farm in Sheffield Township from Thomas Stingle. Lavina joined the German Lutheran church at age 16. She became a member of the Presbyterian Church in Dayton in 1868. Eli and Lavina's children were: John Peter, Melinda, Emma Leina, and William Henry (abstracted from bio by Marian Widmer Gould).

Eli died in a farming accident when the team bolted. He was thrown out and run over by the heavy farm wagon he was driving. (obit in Lafayette Journal and Courier)
