He was born May 27, 1933, in Shelbyville, to Harry K. Carter and Anna Marie(Dunn)Carter.
He married Olena L. Polston on June 20. 1956, and she survives.
Mr. Carter is survived by his daughter, Theresa(David)Martin of Ft. Wayne; daughter, Penny(Carl)Boggs of St. Paul; son, Paul D.(Tam)Carter of Shelbyville; grandson, Jonathon(Teri)Martin of Ft. Wayne; granddaughter, Adrienne Martin(fianc'e Josh Raber) of Ft. Wayne; great-grandson, Briggs Martin, of Ft. Wayne; grandson, Ben (Lisa)Boggs; great-granddsughter, Zoey Boggs, grandson, Brandon Boggs; grandson, Kyle(Hannah)Carter; granddaughter, Paige(Richard)Jones; all of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John Carter and Walt Carter and sister, Sarsh Mae Maynard.
Mr. Carter was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Fairland High School.
Mr. Carter was a specialist 3rd class in the U.S. Army, and served in the Korean War. He was a truck driver for over 35 years for Warner Enterprises. After retiring from truck driving, he worked at Bonded Oil.
He loved to watch old western movies. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family especially at family dinners.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor David Martin and Pastor Jonathan Hall officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by local veteran's organizations.
