Mr. Donald Lynch, 70, of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Alma, Georgia and was a son of the late Ira and Zona Williams Lynch.

After his earlier education he served in the U. S. Army from 1966 until 1974. He served in many capacities while in the Army including as a mechanic, a platoon instructor and as a teacher in diesel mechanics. Mr. Lynch achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He and his wife, Fonda, moved to Nassau County after his military service. Donald worked as a carpenter in the construction trades until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and almost anything where he could work with his hands.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Benny Lynch and a baby sister, Lorraine. He leaves behind his wife, Fonda Lynch of Fernandina Beach, Florida; his sons, Daniel J. Lynch and his wife Lori of Lake City, Florida, Matthew Lynch of Beaver Dam Kentucky; his siblings, Irene Wilbanks of Henry, Tennessee, Hilda Nunez of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Lester Batten and his wife Bonnie of Baxley, Georgia, Jimmy Lynch of Alma, Georgia; sister-in-law, Judy Lynch; grandchildren, Garrett Freeman, Nathan Lynch, Bella Lynch and Dean Lynch.

Services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 28, 2019 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with Chaplain Jackie Hayes officiating. He will be laid to rest in Jacksonville National Cemetery at 11:00 am on Monday, July 1, 2019.

Mr. Lynch’s family asks donations be made to a charity which will benefit disabled veterans or those injured in service to their country. Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors
