Iris Rueter, 95, of Gatesville, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007, at a local nursing home. Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Monday at Restland Cemetery. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Swanason officiating.

Iris was born in Happy Holler, Texas, to the late William Edward Britain and Laura Castleman Britain. She married Edwin Rueter in 1934 and they lived in Coryell County all their married life. Iris attended college at North Texas State College in Denton, Texas, where she received her teacher certification. She was a teacher at Osage School and the Texas Youth Council. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gatesville and Central Texas Presbytery-Spiritual Growth for the Woman of the Church. She was an elder in the church session, clerk of session, President of WOC, Sunday school teacher, choir member; she did extensive work on Coryell County Family History, a charter member of Coryell County Museum Foundation and also served on the board of directors from 1987 through 1990.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976.

Survivors include her sons, Joe Bob Rueter and wife, Frances, of Gatesville, Jed Rueter, also of Gatesville, Mark Rueter and wife, Deborah, of Garland; daughter, Nell Addkison and husband, Tom, of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Dale Rueter, Beverly Pena, Laurie Rueter Brown, Keith Rueter, Brad Rueter and Lindsey Rueter; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild: and many other family members and friends.
