Nancy Burdette passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, June 16, 2019.

Born Nancelie Utt to Kate and Clyde Utt in Dallas, Texas, October 17, 1921, she attended Dallas Public Schools, graduating from Adamson High School in 1938. She attended North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington, Texas (now known as University of Texas Arlington) and graduated from North Texas State Teachers College, Denton, Texas (now known as University of North Texas) in 1942 with a BS degree in Business.

Nancy met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Shepherd Burdette of Roswell, New Mexico while they were students at North Texas State Teachers College. Following the completion of Bob’s basic training for the United States Army they were married in the First Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas on November 27, 1943.

While Bob served in Europe during WWII, Nancy worked for the National War Labor Board in Dallas. After the war, Bob continued his education and graduated from North Texas State Teachers College. He and Nancy eventually moved to Roswell where they stayed until 1963.

In 1963, they moved to Santa Fe and soon settled in Los Alamos where Nancy and Bob both worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

They retired from the Lab in 1978 and returned to Roswell where Nancy was active in the First United Methodist Church, Chapter K, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Wednesday Bridge Club and Friday Morning Coffee Club.

In 2009, Nancy moved to Fox Run Senior Living in Greeley, Colorado to be near her daughter Karen and her family. Always putting others first, she continued to support her many causes and charities including Guiding Eyes for the Blind, KamuKama Foundation, Smile Train and Samaritan’s Purse.

Living her life as a reflection of her faith, she believed that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, brother Clyde Edward (Ted) Utt and wife Virginia and granddaughter Demory Anne Kirkpatrick.

She is survived by her son Robert Milo Burdette and wife Carol, Austin, Texas; Karen Lee Kirkpatrick and husband Paul, Greeley, Colorado; two grandchildren, Ali Melissa Kirkpatrick and Samuel Robert Kirkpatrick and numerous nieces.

Nancy will be laid to rest beside her husband in Roswell, New Mexico, South Park Cemetery on Saturday, June 29th at 10:00 a.m. The graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Laird Cross of the First United Methodist Church of Roswell.

“He has told you, oh mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.”

Micah 6:8.

Nancy loved well and was well loved.
