Charles C. Armstrong, son of George and Margaret Armstrong, was born near Clinton, Mo., March 3, 1867, and died April 6, 1946 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Rightmire, of Ft. Worth, Texas. He had been in this home since December 1, after several years of failing health and several attacks of serious illness from which he would recover enough to be about again and enjoy life.
Mr. Armstrong felt his need of a Savior and accepted Christ when a young man. He joined the Methodist Church and lived the life of a Christian until death claimed him. His membership was in the Garden City Methodist Church.
Charley, as he was familiarly known, united in marriage January 1, 1888, to Margaret Blake, who preceded him in death in February 1937. This union was graciously blessed with eight children, seven of whom survive him.
Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong lived several years south of Hartwell, moving to Cass County in 1911. Their last home together was near Garden City which was broken by the death of Mrs. Armstrong. Following this, Mr. Armstrong spent most of his time in the homes of his children who were devoted to him. He was kind to his family, upright in his dealings, and a good neighbor.
Mr. Armstrong leaves to mourn his death five daughters as follows: Mrs. Nettie Grasher, Hartwell, Mo.; Mrs. Jessie Alcock, Forest Lake, Minn.: Mrs. Bessie Middaugh, Deepwater, Mo. Mrs. Mary Rightmire, Ft. Worth, Tex.; Mrs. Alice Moody, Harrisonville, Mo.; two sons, Geo. and Clarence, of Neola, Iowa; also one brother, Emmett Armstrong, Vinita, Okla.; 40 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 9, at the Wilkinson Chapel in Clinton by Rev. Eaker, pastor of the Clinton Methodist Church. Burial was in Garden City cemetery.
