James Thomas Chisum was the brother of Pioneer Cattleman, John Simpson Chisum. He and his daughter, Sallie Lucy Chisum Robert, lived with John Chisum on his South Spring Ranch, headquarters of a cattle ranching empire that extended for 150 miles of land along the Pecos River. Around the beginning of the Lincoln County War, Sallie Chisum befriended one of the Regulators, William Bonney, a/k/a Billy the Kid, who visited at the ranch. John Chisum left his estate to his brothers James Thomas and Pitser Miller Chisum.
