NEW MADRID -- Walter Robert Welshans, 94, a retired farmer, died at 7:45 a.m. today in Sells Rest Home at Matthews, where he had lived for the last five years.
He was born Aug. 21, 1879, in New Madrid County to the late Robert D. and Susan Kinsworthy Welshans.
Survivors include three daughters, Lucille Allen, Virginia Welshans and Roberta Bell of New Madrid; one son, Walter R. Welshans Jr. of New Madrid; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home, where services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Doug Baker will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.
