G.B. Patterson
Sussex - Word has been received here of the death of George S. Patterson of 5 First Street, Manchaug, Mass., Police cheif at Sutton, Mass., which occurred in St. Vincent's Hospital at Worchester. He was 72 years of age.
He was the husband of Mrs. Abbie E. (Knollin) Patterson and was born at Mount Hebron, Kings County, a son of the late Chambers and Martha (Proctor) Patterson. He went to the United States in 1922 and settled in Whitinsville, residing at Manchaug for the last 18 years. He was formerly employed as a guard at Whitin Machine Works, Whitinsville.
He served on the police force for nine years and was appointed chief in 1960. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Manchaug, the Massachusetts Police Association and the Tucker Lake Sportsmen's Club of Sutton.
Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn two sons, George F. Patterson, Sherman Oaks, Cal., and Russell B. Patterson Sacramento, Cal,; two daughters Mrs. Pearl Benoit Sacramento, and Mrs. Ruth Johnson, Whitinsville; one brother, Edward, South Portland, Me., and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral was held from the Buma Funeral Home, Whitinsville, with service conducted by Rev. Arthur E. Danby of First United Church at Manchang. Burial was made in South Sutton Cemetery.
