Lloyd Oliver Blazer, 80, of Townsend died peacefully in his sleep on June 19, 2007.

Lloyd was born on Jan. 3, 1927, to Oliver and Bonnie (Davidson) Blazer in Oakes, N.D. He was raised and received his education in Oakes. He served on the USS Topeka and USS Bremerton in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Lloyd and Lois Newark were married on June 17, 1951. He worked for Nash Finch in Grand Forks, N.D., and Groves Kelco in Williston, N.D. and Billings. Lloyd and Lois returned to Grand Forks in 1973, where he worked first at Durkin Brothers Excavating and then the University of North Dakota. They moved to Townsend in 1998.

Lloyd enjoyed gardening, camping, hunting, fishing and, above all, spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and loved the Sioux hockey team at the University of North Dakota.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois; his parents, Oliver and Bonnie Blazer; brother and sister-in-law, Loren and Marilyn Blazer; sister-in-law, Helen Blazer; and brother-in-law, Gary Harveland.

Survivors include a son, Mark Blazer of Winston; three daughters, Brenda Blazer (Tom Nehring) of Bismarck, N.D., Lola Blazer (Ruben Obregon) of Minot, N.D., and Beth Blazer of White Hall, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Katie and Sarah of Missoula and Grand Forks, N.D., Troy (Sarah), Paul and John Nehring of Renton, Wash., Princeton, N.J. and Bozeman, Randi Galegher and Nicholas Jackson of Minot and Tasha and Derek Nollen of Whitehall; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Galegher of Minot; two brothers, Kenneth (Virginia) of Mandan, N.D., and Marvin of Cando, N.D.; one sister, JoAnn Harveland of Devils Lake, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family invites all friends of Lloyd to join them in celebrating his life at a graveside service with military honors to be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Deep Creek Cemetery in Townsend. Memorials in Lloyd's name are suggested to any veterans organization of the donor's choice. Service arrangements are under the direction of Retz Funeral Home in Helena.
