Mrs. N. M. Latta is dead

Mrs. Nina Matilda Latta, member of the prominent family of that name, residing here some years ago, died at the home of her daughter, Maud Biggs at Trumansberg, N. Y., according to word received here today. The funeral will be held in that city but the body will be brought to Leavenworth later. She was 83 years old.
Mrs. Latta had been in failing health for the past two years. She had resided with her daughter for six years prior to her death, and until the time of her first illness, she enjoyed good health, despite her advanced age.
The Latta family was one of the most prominent among Leavenworth people in the early history of the city. Mrs. Latta was the widow of the late Judge Samuel Latta, who dedicated the addition by that name in Leavenworth many years ago. The couple came to Leavenworth in 1863. From that time until six years ago when Mrs. Latta moved east, this had been the family home. Judge Latta died here in 1880.
During the early days in this city, Judge Latta took an active part in the events leading up to the Civil war, being an ardent believer in the free state issue.
