Mary Sue Skidmore Tipton, age 68, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 14, 2018. She was surrounded by her loved ones.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Olie Joe Skidmore, Sr. and the late Lillian Dale Thomas Skidmore. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Riley Skidmore , Lester Skidmore, Rev. O.J. Skidmore and Jack Skidmore; three sisters, Peggy Childers, Eula Mae Gibson and her twin sister, Betty Lou Skidmore.

Mary was born June 13, 1950 and grew up on Chestnut Mountain in Canton, NC. She had been employed at Dayco for many years and retired to go back to school to earn a degree in Machine Technology from Haywood Community College. After receiving her degree she worked at Continental Teves, Inc. for several years. Mary was first and foremost a Mama. She loved her kids and grandkids very much and “spoiled all of them rotten.” She enjoyed watching all of her grandchildren play ball and if anyone knew her at all – she was always on a ball field or in a gymnasium watching and supporting her kids. Mary will always be remembered as a strong determined hard worker and fighter in all that she has done.

Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Robert Tipton; a son, Randy Woods and Apryl; her daughters, Amy Deaver and her husband, Victor and Angie Tipton and her husband, Bertrand; five grandsons, Josh Noland, Gage Deaver, Kohen Frady, and Alexandre and Tristin Pollono; three granddaughters, Baley Noland, Lani Woods and Emma Deaver; a great-grandson, Clayton Noland; four sisters, Bertha Fish and Jimmy, Patsy Pridmore and Ralph, Carolyn Marler and Maggie Hembree; three brothers, Luther Skidmore and Patricia, Gene Skidmore and Diane, and James Skidmore and Revonda; also numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very much.

A private memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at a later date.
