Quentin R Pritchard was born March 31 1919 in Milam County, Texas to Alice (Addie) and Olie Pritchard. He was the last of seven brothers. He grew up on a farm with his two youngest brothers as the four older brothers had already left home. His father Olie died when Quentin was age 9 years, leaving his mother and two brothers to raise him. Quentin enlisted in the Navy February 7 1941.
He was on the USS Raleigh at Pearl Harbor when attack by Japan. The USS Raleigh was hit by a torpedo and one bomb, several sailors were injured but none were killed. Quentin being a welder was part of the sailors that were trying to rescue other sailors that were trapped in the ships that capsized . The damage the USS Raleigh received took about 7 months to repair. The remainder of his service was in the Pacific theater. He married Lois Mahagan May 10 1946 about 9 months before his release from the Navy. After the Navy he and Lois came to Amarillo and remained here the rest of his life. Quentin was employed at Southwestern Public Service Co. in April 1951 as a welder and worked for 23years at the East Plant.
Quentin loved to vacation on the Florida coast and did so many summers. In 1973 he had to retire early because of medical problems and had a long illness before his death November 25 1985 . Quentin is survived by wife Lois, three brothers Bill Pritchard and wife Edna, Harold Pritchard and wife Gussie, Jack Pritchard and wife Nellie. Preceded in death by bothers
Issac Patton Pritchard 1898-1940, Albert Sidney Prichard 1902-1949, and
Noland Lee Prichard 1905-1961.
