George was the son of Ebenezer Alexander and Lucy Isabel (Sellers) Alexander, both said to have been born in NC.

He was the husband of Lizzie Pennington Alexander, who preceded him in death. They were married in Williamson CO, TN on January 16, 1910.

G. W. ALEXANDER DIES
TRENTO, Tenn March — George Washington Alexander, 92, died at the home of Mrs John K Pearce -where he lived with his nephew Charles Pennington. He was a Confederate veteran. Funeral service were held this afternoon at the residence. The Rev. C. A. Simpson conducted the service. Born in Henry County, near Paris, April 17 1840, Mr Alexander moved to Maury County, near Columbia, when a child; then In 1900 moved to Gibson County, marrying in 1910 Miss Lizzie Pennington of Rutherford. His wife died 17 years ago and he came to Trenton to make his home with Mr. and Mrs. John K Pearce. Mr. Alexander was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. He was considered an excellent historian and was sought as an authority on questions concerning the War Between the States. He had served with Bragg and Morgan and was a scout In Morgan's command. Interment was In Oakland Cemetery.

Note: Per TN Historical Committee Dept of Libraries Archives and History: Data completed when he was 83 yrs old. He lived in Trenton at the time. He states that his dad lived in Columbia for 50 years. Named grandmother as Judah Johnson Sellers. Notes said that his paternal great grandparents on dad's side came from Scotland and maternal from England and settled in Chatham Co, NC. Paternal Grandfather settled in Westmoreland Co, VA. HIs Great grandfathers and grandfathers were in the Revolutionary War from beginning to end. His parents owned 832 acres in Columbia TN.
