Samuel Barrett was born 2 Jan 1804 in Rockport, Maine, the son of Daniel (b. Concord, MA abt 1762- d. 1851, Rockport, Me.) and Margaret (aka Peggy) Gross (b.1777 - 1842, Camden, Maine).

Daniel Barrett was an important and well-known figure in Rockport and Camden history, as revealed in "The History of Camden and Rockport" by Rueul Robinson.**
He owned what is now Aldermere Farm, having left it to his sons John and Amos, who eventually sold it to A. H. Chatfield, of Ohio.

Daniel Barrett and Peggy Gross had 12 children. Three died very young.

1834: Marriage to Livonia Ross (b. Dec 1814, Rockport, dau. of Joseph and Mary Ross)

They had the following children, both born Rockport:
1. Samuel (jr), b. 19 May 1832 - d. 1910, Rockport, Me. Married Sarah E Hibbert (b. Belmont, Me, dau of Daniel Hibbert and Martha Keff) and had 4 children. Lived in Rockport, Maine. 1900 Census record shows they had 4 children, but none are living. He is buried in Rockport, ME. Sarah Barrett died in 1908, Rockport.

2. Charles Augustus, b. 5 Jan 1834*. m. Eliza Adelia Pillsbury in 1863 in Rockland, Me. By Oct 1875, living in Dutch Flat, Placer, CA. Later lived Concord, CA until his death in Concord, 1915. Burial in Live Oak Cemetery.

1850: In Camden, Samuel, 48, and Lovina, 36 and with Samuel, 18, and Charles, 16. Samuel is a stone mason. Also living in their home is a 10 yr old child, Eulinda 'Button.' (relationship unknown)

In 1870, Samuel, age 68 and Lovinia, age 57, still live in Camden, Maine. Samuel is a rock mason. Son Charles and his wife Adelia and their 2 young daughters live in the home with them. (Charles and Adelia and family would depart for CA, by Oct 1875)

Samuel dies March 1875 in Camden, Maine. There are no other family members buried in his plot in SeaView Cemetery.

Note: About his occupation: With his brothers Charles and John, Samuel operated kilns near the iron bridge in Rockport (near harbor.)

After Samuel's death:
1880: The widow Lovinia Barrett now lives with her son Samuel, his wife and children in Central St, Rockport, on this census record. (Samuel is a fisherman)

She dies between 1885 and 1900, Rockport, Maine.
