Mary Catherine (Helmick) Metcalf, 94, of Rt. 5, Limestone Road, Keyser, WV, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born on August 27, 1908 at Keyser, WV, she was a daughter of the late Pierce and Kate Helmick. She was also preceded in death by her husband Herman J. Metcalf on October 6, 1991; one son, Daniel H. Metcalf; one daughter, Norma Metcalf; a granddaughter, Patsy Bolyard; a son-in-law, Gordon R. Smith; two sisters and one brother.

Mrs. Metcalf was a homemaker and loved gardening both vegetables and flowers. She especially enjoyed canning her vegetables and always remarked “I’m in Heaven when I’m canning.” She was also a member of the Second Baptist Church, Limestone Road.

Surviving is one daughter, Regina M. Smith, with whom Mrs. Metcalf resided; one son, Otis Metcalfe and wife Virginia of Keyser; a daughter-in-law, Charmell Metcalf of Keyser; seven grandchildren, Mike Metcalfe, Norma Clark, Debbie Ack, Phil Metcalf, Roxanne Metcalf and Robert “Robbie” Smith and wife Tanya, all of Keyser and Desirae Foster of Burlington, WV; eight great-grandchildren and a special friend, Mary Leatherman of Keyser.

Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, May 29 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Samuel Biser officiating.

Interment was in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
